Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file a site stores in your browser so it can recognise the same browser on the next request. Related technologies — local storage and session storage — do the same job in a different place. This policy covers all of them and uses “cookie” as shorthand throughout.

Cookies cannot read your files, run programs or see anything you do on other sites. They are how a website remembers that you are signed in between one page and the next.

• Essential. Without these the site cannot work. They keep you signed in and protect paid content from being served to the wrong browser. They carry no marketing value and cannot be switched off while you are using an account.
• Preference. These remember a choice you already made — currently only whether you asked for the dark or light interface. Blocking them costs you nothing but the setting.
• Advertising. Free pages carry ads from Google, which sets its own cookies to choose what to show and to avoid repeating the same ad. These are the only cookies on the site placed by anyone other than us.

This is the complete list. Names ending in * vary by environment or campaign.

Two outside services touch your browser. Both are named above and both operate under their own privacy terms, which we do not control:

• Our payment processor — only on the checkout pages you are redirected to, and only to complete the transaction securely.
• Google advertising — on free, ad-supported pages. Paid pages carry no ads.

We do not embed social widgets, comment systems, chat bubbles or trackers from anyone else.

• In your browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all let you block or delete cookies per site from their privacy settings.
• Google ad personalisation. Adjust or switch it off at adssettings.google.com. You will still see ads; they simply stop being tailored.
• Subscribe. Paid pages carry no ads, so no advertising cookies are set on them.

Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and prevent you from signing back in. Everything else can be blocked with no loss of function.

There is still no agreed standard for how a site should answer a Do Not Track header, so we do not claim to honour one. Where Global Privacy Control signals are legally binding in your jurisdiction, we treat them as a valid opt-out of the advertising category described above.
